Mackays Hotel is located a few minutes' walk from Wick Railway Station on Ebenezer Place, the shortest street in the world.
Its restaurant, Bistro No. 1, serves locally sourced Scottish food. On our visit, we had cullen skink, a traditional creamy smoked haddock soup; and fish and chips, made with fresh haddock from Scrabster.
The bar has an extensive range of whiskies - as well as Stroma, the local whisky liqueur made by Old Pulteney Distillery in Wick.
