The North Coast 500 is a road trip of just over 500 miles around the coastline of the northern Highlands of Scotland.
The route begins and ends in Inverness and passes through places including Applecross, Gairloch, Ullapool, Lochinver, Durness, Tongue, Thurso, John O’ Groats, Wick, Golspie and Brora.
The route can be undertaken at any time of year but the summer months are ideal because of the longer daylight hours in the Highlands.
Drivers can choose a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction for their trip. Some like the anti-clockwise direction because the scenery becomes more impressive along the west coast of Scotland, but even this is a matter of individual preference.
